Not a good night.... Us-or-football....

Many of you did exactly what you were supposed to do, it was GREA! I appreciate your hard work and your self control. Thank you so much for doing your very best!

Others seemed to think that Fall vacation extends to the football sidelines!!! Talking, out of place , walking to formations,, refusing to do what is called, standing, playing, yelling out bus windows....
These kinds of things, if continued, will certainly NOT reserve you a place for any
activities or teams which may develop in the future!!!

The dance which was called "booty drop" is prohibited until such time as it can be revised
to be acceptable to the general public... Many MANY of you were entirely
too demonstrative in your presentation of the dance, it was not well recieved by the
audience AT ALL!

I asked that each of you who did not get new purple bloomers, and/or a new body hugger to
text me today ( certainly before Monday) ... Email would be even better ... Ormanm@ k12 tn. Net.
Include the item(s) you need, size, and your name ....

If you have not brought me your vest ( clean) with your name pinned to it, and your shirt ( if it didn't fit right)....
We need it! NOW ASAP.

I had intended to have CATS practice on Monday... Who will be out of town
other than Karter and Hailey T.? (see email above).

Please be learning and PERFECTING your basketball cheers.

Stop the idle gossip when it starts...
Be kind to each other... Support each other...Forgive each other

Special thanks

When you see Mrs Thompson, Jadah's grandmother
remind yourself to thank her for the football mums you wore
at Homecoming! This is a MOST tradional part of any homecoming
from about 1950 ---approx. 1990. They are still used in some
areas of the country for homecoming.

The mums were a gift from Mrs. Thompson, she had the idea
to go along with your retro uniforms! What a great idea and what
a kind thing to do , many thanks to Mrs. Thompson!

On the road again.... In a clean bus!

Last week was a fun filled week of one event coming on the very heels of another.
We did well at every event and showed brilliantly in the new retro uniforms....
even though they are not what was ordered. Debra Black has sent written confirmation
that the mismade tops will be corrected, she further verbalized this to me and to Mrs.Warner by
phone. Having said that, the comments were good about the uniforms. School Board members, alumni, and retired
faculty included. The overwhelming majority of girls on the team said they LOVED the skirts. At one point
I overheard several trying to pick out cheers " where we spin" so the circles would fan out.
The boys' uniforms were a huge success, more people than I can remember commented on
how sharp and in command the guys looked.

Many thanks to our new Capt., Miss Wade, and our new Co-Capts. Misters Lake and Morris
for their very able handling of the several duties which were delegated to them
Thursday and Friday. The continued co-operation of all team members is not only expected , but greatly
appreciated by everyone.

General comments from last week- then this week's schedule...

A few words:
generally, last week was pretty good...
HOWEVER...

1. The bus ( which wasn't really anybody's fault) was a disaster! I appreciate
how everyone tried to co-operate and make the best of a bad situation. Many
thanks to the parents ( and others) who provided ( or offered) rides home from Tullahoma.
We were blessed with heroes who stepped in to bail us out .

2. If you do not know the words or motions to the cheers on the yellow cheer board... I am not
exactly sure of what to say to you! Get with it, or be benched! (a freshman and a sophomore in particular)
if you mess up... IT ISN'T FUNNY...stop laughing about it, don't roll your eyes and throw up
your hands.. I assure you that the adults in
the crowd DO NOT think you are cute when you don't know what you are doing... You've had since MARCH!
(a sophomore ....)

3. Moving your arms and smiling IS NOT LEADING CHEERS!
Quit doing that! "I'm tired, I don't feel well, oh- I wasn't thinking" does not make a difference...CHEER! If you don't
like something that has happened (or not happened) it isn't your place to get mad and pouty and not cheer! I will
see to things that I feel aren't going well--you aren't the coach!
(a senior, a freshman, a sophomore)

4. If you feel that people should be careful not to speak to you in public in a way which you feel is disrespectful, and you are upset by it,
don't turn around and curse at anyone (especially a team mate) in public yourself...!
This will be addressed further this week, I assure you!

5. At tryouts I made special arrangements with a few members about sharing their
time with other activities. This is quickly becoming a problem as more and more other things seem
to be taking precidence over THE SPIRIT TEAM... ( I am NOT refering to family emergencies or illnesses).
Do not announce that you will be taking more time than aggreed on, do not add new activities at this late date to
take you away from US! We need EVERYBODY at all practices humanly possible!
I doubt seriously that this arrangement will ever be permitted again. The band, the football team, nor the basketball teams allow this.
Do not abuse it.

Funding Reminder

At the recent parent meeting, we asked that every parent who owes more than $200.00 please try to pay at least $200.00 toward the bill. Everyone who owes less than $200.00 , please pay the balance of that.

We discussed that everyone is having to adjust to the money crunch we are in, everyone understands.....we ask that you do ALL you can do to clear this account as soonas possible.

Anyone whose account isn't cleared WILL be encumbered for the remaining part of it...
The band and all other organizations have to do this, I hope we do not have to. If we all work together, we can get this done.

There are SONIC cards and other opportunities for you to raise the money you owe if you need that avenue, just let the coach know and we will assist you.
Thanks

Important Reminders

1.no matter how we may feel ( sick, mad, upset, tired, disapointed) we must not show our feelings to be anything other than
excited, enthusiastic, happy, peppy, and high spirited. Those negative feelings can never be allowed to show in public... Espesially when representing CHS in any way!

If we don't like a decision a coach has made, ( moving a floor/field position, the choice of who flies, changing the old ways) ... If we are upset with a team mate, sweetheart, parent, teacher, the weather.... Anything....
...... Those things have nothing to do with our JOB. We must remind ourselves that the TEAM is more important than the individual...
Remember the old sports slogan:" THERE IS NO *I* IN TEAM", our job as a TEAM is to support and encourage the fans and the team on the field. None of us can do that if our expressions and body language and energy levels are not
what they should be!

2. Anyone who owes less than $200.00 on their account is asked to pay the remaining balance this coming week. Anyone with a balance of more than $200.00 is asked to pay at least $200.00 this week.

Team members who have not paid up ( or are not making regular payments) will be encumbered
at report card time . Certainly, anyone with an outstanding balance at the end of the year will be encumbered for the full
balance owed.

WE HAVE made wonderful progress in the last few weeks, we can be proud of our achievements ( while still not satisfied with our skill levels)...

Nobody has MORE potential than our team...
And CERTAINLY none are better looking!

Let's go LIONS!

Our First Public Performance is THIS WEEK!

Well, here it is, we hit the crowd for real this week at the jamboree this Friday agains F.R.A.
We need to remember that whatever else we do, our purpose for existance is to raise school spirit,
support our teams , and LEAD the crowd in CHEERING the Lions on to VICTORY!
Our job remains the same, however, whether we win every game OR ( God forbid) no game all year. We ARE the ones who
must never let our confidence or hope or faith in our team sag.

We have a great Spirit Team with a new look and a new attitude and new
goals of excellence. Our girls are the prettiest and our guys the most handsome
and all together they are the most talented team of any school we will face
off against all year. NOBODY is better than us ... And few are as good!

Tryouts--Day 4

Run-Through Day:  You had a chance today to go through the routines as you will for tryouts tomorrow.  Be sure to pay attention to the suggestions you were given and put on your game face for the final day.  Remember to show your school spirit the whole time.

The complete squad list should be posted on the blog no later than 8 p.m. tomorrow night.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

Tryouts--Day 3

We have covered all the tryout material now, so we hope you are practicing to be ready for Monday's run through. Thanks to the girls who partnered with the guys on Saturday to help them learn stunts. Also, thanks to Monica and Micah Hartsfield from CATS Gym and Jeff Hardy who helped coach the stunting.  You were all awesome! It's amazing how much you have progressed in such a short time.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Tryouts--Day 2

Today was very productive, learning two cheers and a sideline, as well as reviewing the dance from yesterday.  Keep those spirits up and energy high!

Tomorrow we will finish up the instruction of new material with another dance that is more advanced. Then you can practice over the weekend and be ready to show your stuff on Monday.  There will also be time in the schedule for you to practice tumbling on the gym floor.  We are looking for another productive day on Friday.  Don't forget that we will be staying until 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Monday. Tuesday's ending time will vary, depending on your number order.

Reminder:  You must have any outstanding balance to CATS Gym paid in full no later than Monday, March 29, in order to be selected for either squad on Tuesday.

Tryouts--Day 1

We had a great first day of tryouts.  Everyone was working hard, and the coaches were really impressed with the way some of you stepped up to help the others learn.  Don't be discouraged if you didn't catch on as quickly as others. That's why we are teaching you all of the material by Friday and giving you the weekend to work on perfecting it. Monday we will have a "run through" of what Tuesday's tryout will be like, and coaches/trainers will offer suggestions as to the strengths and weaknesses of your performance.

Remember to get all of your teacher evaluation forms in if you haven't done that yet.

Let's have a GREAT second day on Thursday!

Final Post of Season

Well, the longest cheerleading year in CHS history has finally come to an end. To the best of my knowledge, you are the ONLY squad to cheer at both a college football stadium AND a college basketball stadium in the same year. What a year for the LIONS!

ALL remaining uniform pieces must be returned ON HANGERS Tuesday afternoon in the cheerleading room. If you can't be there, then you need to find someone else to bring yours and sign for you. We WILL NOT take any uniforms on Wednesday.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Basketball Finals Week

We are finally nearing the end of what has become a year-long season for cheerleaders at CHS.  Cheering at Cleveland High was a challenge, but you rose to the occasion like champs!

All orders for State Tournament T-shirts must be placed--with the money--by 9:30 a.m. on Monday, so I can call the order in to Jones & Lang by 10:00.  Those of you with parents who regularly attend the games, be sure to ask them if they want a shirt to wear to the games.  No one signed up to take orders before school on Monday.  Let me know when you comment on the blog whether you can take on this responsibility.

REMINDER that uniform check-in is on Tuesday afternoon in the cheerleader room. JV needs to launder and turn in all uniforms, including uniform body huggers, on that day.  Varsity needs to launder and turn in all uniform pieces except (1) new uniform and (2) purple/white Lions, which you will keep to wear for the tournament games.

Everyone trying out for next year's squad MUST HAVE all uniforms (even any extra pieces that you might have) laundered and checked in before the first meeting on Wednesday, March 24.

Tournament Schedule:
  • Thursday, March 18--Pep Rally @ 2:15 (varsity released by 2:00 to get dressed)

Thursday, March 11--CATS practice

NO after-school practice next week

Thursday, March 18--State Quarterfinals @ MTSU (Time to be determined Saturday, 3/13)
  • Drivers confirmed for car pool so far are Lisa Vassar and Tammy Crews.

  • We will also need drivers for Friday and Saturday if the guys play like they did in Cleveland!
ALL uniforms must be laundered and returned before you will be allowed to tryout. At least one of the coaches will be in the cheerleader room after school on Tuesday, March 16, to check in any uniforms you have ready.  JV should plan to return yours on that date.

Update for Tournament Schedule

March 8--Monday we will be leaving school immediately after second block to head to Cleveland (about 30 miles past Chattanooga) for the sectional game.  We will be stopping at the Hamilton Place Mall in Chattanooga for a late lunch and some "we deserve it" time before going on to Cleveland High School for the 6:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. EST) game.  Report to Mr. Orman's room after your second block class with everything you need to take with you.

We are renting two Expeditions for the trip, with your coaches as drivers.  You will be assigned to ride up with one coach and back with the other according to your cheering lines outlined below.  The driver controls the music dials, so be sure to bring your iPod (which we know you will anyway) if you can't tolerate "old people" music.

After a lengthy discussion with the Administration following the Siegel game, the coaches have made these changes to your positions in line for the Cleveland game:
  • We are only allowed to have 12 cheerleaders on the floor at once, so each side will have only 6 girls at a time.
  • We will rotate girls in and out at the coaches' discretion--no discussion. HINT:  It will not be based on rank, grade, or race.
  • Left side: Brianna, Caitlin, Diondra, Hannah, Jaime, Kandreah (Candace--out first rotation)
  • Right side:  Sara, Olivia, Chelsey, Neka, Amy, Paxton
If we win the game Monday, we will play in Quarterfinals on Thursday, March 18 . . . lose and we're done.

You will have an Excused Tardy from Mrs. Johnson on Tuesday morning until 9:15.  Of course, Juniors taking the ACT will need to report to your testing rooms by 7:45 a.m.

This trip is costing us close to $800 from cheerleader funds, so those who make next year's squad will be looking at more fund raisers.  Of course, we will always accept donations. :)

See you Monday morning,
Mr. Orman and Mrs. Harvey

Update for Week of February 1

Reminder:  Be sure to contact Mrs. Harvey or Mr. Orman (not captains) at least an hour before you are scheduled to be at school if you are not able to attend a game.

The still-shot DVD (which includes some cheerleader pictures) that was shown at the football banquet is available for $10, with all proceeds going to the cheerleaders.  See Mrs. Harvey or Coach Belew for purchases. This would be great for a digital picture frame.

Week of January 25, 2010

Well, it has certainly been an interesting week. You represented us well at the football banquet. I was very pleased with your attendance. There are still some areas of your sideline behavior that need to be corrected, but the halftime performance looked good. We have a video of it to show you on Monday.

We will need all of you and some of your parents to work the Cupid Classic cheer/dance competition that we are hosting on Saturday, February 13. The hours will be from 8:00 a.m. until 3 or 3:30. There will be a make-up varsity game at home that night.

Week of January 18, 2010

You varsity girls did an AWESOME job at the Shelbyville game! Just imagine what it will be like when we get Cory and Al stunting with us again and cheering with those new megaphones.

Since the JV game on Saturday was canceled, we plan to incorporate the entire squad for the home Lawrence County game halftime performance at the boy's game. It will be a combination of dance and cheer similar to what we would do for competition . . . so get ready for some practice on Monday.

If anyone would still like to buy a football banquet ticket, I will have them at practice on Monday.

Monday--Practice 3-5 p.m. in main gym (BRING POMS and varsity glitter bloomers)
Tuesday--Varsity cheers @ girls game in Antioch (Departure time TBA)
